Chrysanthemum Keepsake Box
$160.00
Description
c. 1930s–1950s chrysanthemum relief silver-plated keepsake box.
The interior is lined in red velvet, intended to hold small personal objects.
The chrysanthemum, long associated with joy, longevity, and nobility, appears here as both ornament and symbol.
The underside bears a maker’s mark in the form of a flag enclosing an “S”, a type of trademark used by smaller manufacturers rather than formal silver assay marks. The absence of purity stamps, together with this style of marking and construction, places the piece in the first half of the 20th century.
